A sergeant engaged in proactive patrol observed a suspicious vehicle, a white Ford Transit van with non-local plates, idling before a shuttered store on the 19000 block of Golden Valley Road, per a Facebook post by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the sergeant noted behavior from the driver suggesting intoxication. After conducting field sobriety tests, which the driver from Tennessee, aged 36, failed, the discovery of a metal knuckle knife and multiple loaded firearms, including an assault rifle, culminated in his arrest on misdemeanor and felony weapons and DUI charges.
"He observed a white Ford Transit van with out-of-state license plates idling in front of a closed store," the post detailed the sergeant's initial suspicion.
The suspect, housed within the facilities of the SCV Sheriff's Station jail, awaits due process.
