A fatal encounter on Jacksonville’s Southside has left Russell Whipple, 68, dead after being shot multiple times on Saturday night. The suspect, 45-year-old Timothy Allen Cherry, was apprehended by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) in connection with the murder. News4Jax reports that the incident occurred around 9 p.m., when officers responded to a call on Dorothea Road.
Cherry, now facing murder charges, is being held at Duval County Jail on counts of murder, and attempted murder of a second person. The First Coast News details that the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported Whipple to a hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene units have taken over the ongoing investigation, with cooperation from the State Attorney's Office and the Medical Examiner's Office.
Information from a witness interview was integral in identifying Cherry as the suspect, according to JSO statements. The name of the second individual Cherry is accused of attempting to murder has not yet been released.
