An unexpected wastewater spill into the Hillsborough River has prompted an emergency response in Tampa. The overflow originated from the Louisiana Pumping Station at Rivercrest Park, reportedly caused by a pipe clog of unknown origin. According to the City of Tampa website, the incident has affected the south Seminole Heights neighborhood.
City crews are working to clear the blockage and have brought in a contractor to install a portable bypass system to maintain operations at the compromised pumping station. Officials aim to resolve the situation by midnight.
The spill has not affected the city’s drinking water supply. State and county environmental regulators have been notified.
