A high-speed chase on the Gandy Bridge in Tampa recently resulted in a fiery crash after a suspect reportedly fled from a Florida Highway Patrol trooper. As WFLA reports, The pursuit began around 1 a.m. yesterday, when a trooper clocked a Toyota Supra doing 93 mph in a 55 mph zone; the chase escalated quickly as the driver pushed the vehicle speeds exceeding 100 mph, refusing to comply with the attempted traffic stop by the FHP.
At the east end of the bridge, an FHP trooper executed a PIT maneuver described by FOX 13 News, which eventually led to the suspect's vehicle rotating onto the shoulder of the bridge where it crashed into a light pole and caught fire, remarkably, however, the two men inside the car managed to survive with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Identified as 31-year-old Brandon Ramnarine from Tampa, the driver and his passenger, whose age has not been publicly released, were both transported to a hospital for treatment following the collision, per a release from FHP. Ramnarine is now facing charges for fleeing and eluding at high speed, reinforcing the stakes and potentially dire consequences of disregarding law enforcement directives on public roadways.
WTSP echoed details of the incident, noting the Brandon man, along with his passenger, a 32-year-old from Tampa, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries which again points to a narrow escape from a potentially lethal situation; meanwhile, the driver's decision to flee the attempted traffic stop has created a ripple effect of legal troubles and put multiple lives at risk.
