Earlier this morning in Tampa's SoHo district, a serious incident unfolded when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in what has been described as a DUI-related crash. WFLA reports that the collision took place just before 3 a.m. on South Howard Avenue at West Azeele Street. A driver, now in police custody under suspicion of driving under the influence, veered off the road and hit an individual who was standing behind a parked car.
The impact left the pedestrian with serious injuries; however, they were reported to be in stable condition as of today. In an unfolding turn of events, another individual was also arrested; this time for assaulting a police officer during the DUI investigation. This was additionally covered by WTSP, which stated that the pedestrian was taken to the hospital following the incident.
