A teenage driver has been taken into custody, facing charges following a deadly vehicle collision that occurred on West Fuqua Street in Houston. The crash, which resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy, took place on Saturday evening, according to Houston Police Department. City of Houston's press release reported that the 16-year-old male driver, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his juvenile status, is being charged with failure to stop and render aid.
Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer A. Thomas from the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division revealed the details of the crash, stating that a gray Buick Enclave veered off the road and struck a tree, before halting across both lanes of West Fuqua Street before the driver and a passenger fled on foot but later returned, while the unfortunate victim was pronounced dead at the scene as he was trapped in the vehicle, the juvenile driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital and was subsequently arrested and charged. The deceased has not yet been publicly identified, pending further investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, as reported by the City of Houston.
The Houston Police Department has not released more details about what led to the crash, but they confirmed the investigation is still ongoing. The driver has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities due to the charges, as per the City of Houston.
