A teenage boy, age 17, was shot and critically injured in Hamilton Heights, prompting a police investigation into the incident that occurred on the Tuesday afternoon. The shooting took place in the 1300 block of Goodfellow Blvd at around 2:30 p.m., according to reports from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The young male was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Police said that he was located outside a food store when they arrived on the scene. The severity of his injuries prevented him from providing a statement at the time and he was quickly transported to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the critical nature of the wound, he was last reported to be in stable condition.
Based on the preliminary investigation by District 5 officers, the suspect, who is also believed to be a teenager, fled the scene following the shooting. The circumstances leading up to the violent encounter remain unclear, and detectives are actively working to piece together the details of what transpired.
The police have encouraged the community to come forward with information. "Anyone with a tip about this incident who wants to remain anonymous and is interested in a possible cash reward for their tip should contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477)," the SLMPD statement read. The public can also provide tips directly to a detective at 314-444-0001, with the caveat that only tips submitted to CrimeStoppers leading to a felony arrest may be eligible for rewards.
