Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies made two arrests following a traffic stop yesterday that resulted in the discovery of illegal substances and potential drug paraphernalia. The announcement came via a social media post by Sheriff Tommy Jones. The stop, which occurred in Tellico Plains, initiated after officers identified a person with an active arrest warrant in the vehicle, led to the retrieval of substances believed to be methamphetamine, Xanax, and drug paraphernalia after consent to search the vehicle was given.
The individuals, whose identities have not been disclosed by the Sheriff's Office out of policy for those who are not actively wanted or considered a public risk, now face charges including possession of Schedule II Methamphetamine for resale, possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, and simple possession of Schedule IV Xanax, the Sheriff's Office laid out these allegations in their post, and, all subjects, as reminded by the office, are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Both suspects were taken to Monroe County Jail following their arrest, where they will await the legal proceedings associated with their charges.
