
The Tennessee Department of Correction has announced the selection of media witnesses for the upcoming execution of Oscar Franklin Smith, who holds the inmate number 136424. The selection process, which follows state law, chose representatives from eight applications submitted by recognized Tennessee news organizations. The selected witnesses are tasked with observing the execution as per the legal requirements outlined in the state's statutes.
The list of witnesses includes Travis Loller of the Associated Press, Kirsten Fiscus Bodenbach from The Tennessean, Steve Cavendish representing the Nashville Banner, and Robert Alan Walters from Six Rivers Media. Others selected are Madeleine Nolan from Fox 17, Steve Mehling of WSMV, and Catherine Sweeney with WPLN, at the event that an alternate is required, Victoria Howland from WKRN has been designated to step in. This decision was made following the guidelines of the Tennessee Department of Correction Adult Services Division, Chapter 0420-3-4 and is backed by the authority of TCA 40-23-116.
