The Gresham Police Department is currently investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred in the early hours of May 13 on the 3500 block of SE Richey Road. Responding to reports at the scene, officers discovered shell casings scattered in the street and a home impacted by the gunfire, though fortunately, no occupants were harmed. Jeffrey Daniel, who was critically injured during the incident, was transported to a local hospital in a stolen vehicle by two youths who were subsequently detained, as reported by the Gresham Police Department.
Further investigation revealed that Daniel, alongside the two youths detained at the hospital and another juvenile, was linked to the shooting on Richey Road. In an unfortunate turn of events, Daniel succumbed to his injuries and passed away on May 17. After being struck by gunfire from another occupant in the car, the two youths with Daniel at the hospital were arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder and other crimes. Following Daniel's death, all three juvenile suspects, aged 16, are now facing an array of charges that consist of murder, attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and conspiracy.
On Tuesday, the final suspect in the shooting was apprehended. Assisted by the Portland Police Bureau Special Emergency Reaction Team, Major Crimes Team detectives executed a warrant at a residence in northeast Portland, as stated by the Gresham Police. This concluded the active pursuit of individuals involved in the incident. The vehicle utilized in the drive-by shooting has also been recovered.
The Gresham Police extend their gratitude to multiple law enforcement partners for their collaboration in the investigation, including the Portland Police Bureau, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Portland Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
