A tragic incident unfolded this Mother's Day in Washington County, where a mother and her toddler were killed in a collision involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70. The Pennsylvania State Police reported that the accident occurred around 1:10 p.m. near Claysville, per WPXI. A Toyota Camry, driven by the husband and father of the victims, lost control and veered across the median, crashing into an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The sequence of events was detailed by Trooper Rocco Gagliardi of the Pennsylvania State Police, who explained that the Camry "goes up and over about a 20-foot hill," before descending rapidly into the eastbound lanes and colliding with the tractor-trailer. This forceful impact was powerful enough to push the truck off the road, causing it to hit an occupied home, as reported by WTAE.
The consequences were heartbreaking: the mother died at the scene, and the child succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital. The driver of the Camry was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine what initially caused Camry to lose control, as per WTAE.
