As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) is ramping up patrols on both land and water to ensure a safe holiday for everyone. With more deputies on the lookout, TCSO is actively trying to prevent accidents caused by intoxicated driving and other reckless behaviors.
According to a recent release on the TCSO website, Lake Travis will be closely monitored by TCSO Lake Patrol. They are urging everyone to not only be aware of their presence but also to avoid the potentially fatal mistake of operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
The ongoing drought has also affected lake levels, leading to an increase in underwater hazards that are not immediately visible. Boaters are encouraged to maintain safe speeds to navigate these dangers, especially when engaging in activities involving towing individuals, such as tubing, waterskiing, or wakeboarding.
In addition to the increased lake and road patrols, the TCSO emphasizes the importance of wearing life jackets. "Remember, life jackets save lives," stated the TCSO. In the event that individuals find themselves in an emergency situation on the water, the TCSO advises staying calm and calling for help immediately.
