In the pre-dawn shadow of the Pacific Northwest, tragedy struck on a stretch of interstate that skirts through Gilliam County. On Tuesday morning, a fatal accident took the life of a Twin Falls man when his commercial vehicle collided with the unyielding concrete of a bridge pillar. According to Oregon State Police reports, Adam Hassan Ahmed Haroun, 47, was the sole occupant of a westbound Freightliner truck that veered off Interstate 84, near milepost 148, at approximately 3:45 a.m. and subsequently became engulfed in flames.
The accident's immediate aftermath was a prolonged disruption of traffic flow, with the highway being closed for around 11 hours. The flames that claimed Haroun's life were extinguished by the efforts of the North Gilliam County Fire Department, their presence a testament to the community's response in times of crisis.
Efforts to investigate and mitigate the impact of the crash on I-84 were supported by both the North Gilliam County Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The teams worked collectively to manage the site of the incident and assist with rerouting traffic until the highway was cleared for travel once again.
