As Memorial Day approaches, Union County is setting the tone for how the holiday will impact local services and residents’ recreational planning. Union County Government offices and facilities will be taking a day off on Monday, May 26, to observe the Memorial Day holiday, a time honored nationally to remember the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.
For all the bibliophiles and casual readers out there, make note that Union County Library branches will operate as usual on Saturday, May 24, but doors will remain closed on Memorial Day itself, according to the Union County website; however, their digital resources continue to be available online, providing uninterrupted access to ebooks, audiobooks, and other online materials.
Those looking to bask in the outdoors over the holiday weekend may find solace in knowing that Cane Creek Park will follow its regular operating schedule both during the weekend and on the holiday Monday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; however, those planning to visit should plan their outing with the understanding that on previous Memorial Days the day use area has been exceptionally busy, so early arrival is recommended for anyone with planned activities.
Yet, beachgoers will have to delay their sandy escapades, as the beaches at Cane Creek will remain closed over the weekend, "as we are recruiting additional lifeguards," the Union County announcement said, with no defined opening date for the beach in the day use area and at the campground currently set; park administration encourages hopeful visitors to stay tuned for updates on this service.
Lastly, for Union County residents looking to clear out the waste before the holiday barbecues pile up, all Waste and Recycling Centers as well as the Union County Landfill will be open on Saturday, May 24, but they will also join in the observance of Memorial Day with a closure on Monday, May 26.
