As the academic year winds down, the Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati is not just celebrating the achievements of its MBA students; it's planting the seed for a future of ethical leadership within the business sector. The college's ceremony for the graduating cohort wasn't just another cap-and-gown affair—it was an opportunity for fresh MBA grads to commit to leading with integrity as they step into influential roles in the business world.
According to a recent article, the academic director of the MBA program, Johnny Rungtusanatham, PhD, was present to welcome the students alongside the dean, Marianne Lewis, PhD. At the event, Lewis presented her insights, highlighting the fine balance between caring deeply and demanding excellence, and how it shapes great leaders.
"I study tensions, so I think about them a lot. The tension I want you to think about— from a program perspective, from a leadership perspective and a life perspective—is between caring and demanding. And great leaders are always both," Dean Lewis told the attendees, as reported by the University of Cincinnati's news page. She emphasized the importance of leading with both heart and high standards, a dual approach she suggested would guide these aspiring leaders towards their professional zenith.
In her address, Lewis also urged the graduates to remain interconnected, emphasizing the institution's continued support in their burgeoning careers. "I hope you have felt cared about. I don't say it lightly. We love you and it matters because we're here for you. We are here for your growth now and in the future. Our job is to continuously increase the value of your degree," she expressed, according to the same University of Cincinnati news release.
