Attention, Colorado Springs motorists: buckle up for a string of roadwork activities that may impact your commuting routine in the coming weeks. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has provided updates on closures and detours starting this week for the Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Program (MAMSIP), as reported by CDOT. Southbound South Academy Boulevard will be fully closed between Milton Proby Parkway and Hartford Street, with accompanying detours to reroute traffic and ensure continued access to local streets.
Starting from May 28, the closure of the southbound stretch is set to last from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and if Mother Nature decides to throw a wrench into the plans, a backup is scheduled for the next night. Meanwhile, traffic that's typically flowing on the southbound South Academy will need to go on a little detour via Milton Proby Parkway, Hancock Expressway, Main Street, and US 85/87 before hitting the northbound I-25 and looping back to the South Academy. Brace yourselves to flexibly adjust your driving routes as the project moves ahead.
In addition to the aforementioned shutdowns, the area is poised for more transformations. Brace yourself for the shift to the outside lane on southbound South Academy Boulevard over US 85/87, continuing through July, and the east and westbound displacements between I-25 and Fountain Creek are projected until August. An active construction zone requires heightened vigilance, as lane widths will shrink, thereby requiring your sharper focus behind the wheel. You can also expect closures and realignments on the local on-ramps and shifts in Bradley Road underpasses to allow for uninterrupted work on critical infrastructure.
