The expansive floor of the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah, has become the staging ground for a symbol of national pride and local memory as workers assemble an oversized American flag, set to soar above a Utah canyon. As reported by FOX 13, this 400-pound emblem will replace an earlier tribute to a fallen hero, Maj. Brent Taylor, whose sacrifice continues to resonate with the community he served both in office and in combat.

Amidst these preparatory efforts, Jennie Taylor, the widow of Maj. Brent Taylor and founder of the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, has not only maintained the legacy of her late husband but propelled it forward. According to ABC4, the original flag, first unfurled across Coldwater Canyon on Veterans Day in 2018, heralded Taylor's memory after he was killed the Saturday before that year's Election Day. His story, much like the flag, has become a marker of collective respect and remembrance.

In the spirit of renewal and ongoing tribute, a call for a new flag to take up 'The Major's' sentinel post was answered with vigor. Workers at Colonial Flag have taken to the task with care, focusing on the intricate details that such a symbolic piece demands. Jacob Swenson from Colonial Flag highlighted the meticulous nature of their work in a statement obtained by KSL, "We have to cram a lot of fabric onto that machine and maneuver. Did we get the math right on this? Do we get it all calculated?" The new flag is to fly over Coldwater Canyon during Memorial Day, renewing the tradition started years ago.
