Over the past week, South Salt Lake has been the scene of a violent confrontation resulting in a death, tied to what seems to be a drug deal gone wrong. According to information from KSL, Michael Lynn Angus, a 50-year-old Vernal man, has been arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated murder for his involvement in a fatal shooting. The arrest took place last Friday, marking a swift response by law enforcement to the crime that occurred earlier in the week.
Further details emerged when Angus reportedly admitted to authorities his role in the altercation, the disclosure of which was reported by KSL NewsRadio. Angus had originally attempted to retrieve his money from a fraudulent drug deal. During that time, a confrontation escalated when the man at the apartment brandished a gun, and in response, one of Angus’s associates fired their weapon, resulting in the dealer's death. This part of the story entails a convoluted turn of events that paints a picture of a drug deal turned violent confrontation.
Adding to these details, KUTV reported that Angus exercised his right to remain silent after the incident. Still, his accomplice, Murphy, divulged that the handgun Angus carried was meant as a precaution, intended to intimidate and not to harm, “He claimed he only brought it to threaten the man if he did not return the money,” clearly indicating that the preparation for a potential conflict was a forethought.
Both Angus and Murphy are now facing serious charges, and the criminal justice system is scrutinizing their actions and intentions.
