Amidst the usual bustle of a weekday afternoon, staff at Rock Rest Lodge were thrust into a harrowing situation when a man assaulted a waitress with a firearm. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on Wednesday, around 1:45 p.m., when 30-year-old Brandon Montano entered the establishment, located at 16005 Mt. Vernon Road, and later followed the waitress into the women's restroom under the pretense of retrieving an item.
The situation escalated quickly when Montano allegedly brandished a handgun and began to choke the waitress. However, in a daring act, the waitress managed to fight back, disarm the assailant, and alert her coworkers, who rapidly moved to aid her. Ast obtained by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the employees are said to have subdued Montano, effectively detaining him until law enforcement arrived on the scene and arrested him.
Montano now faces multiple charges, including 2nd degree kidnapping, 2nd degree assault, strangulation, false imprisonment, menacing, and prohibited use of weapons. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. It's important to note, these charges are not convictions. Montano remains innocent until proven guilty, a cornerstone principle of our justice system that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reiterated in their report on the incident.
