A recent incident at a Wasatch County addiction recovery center has led to a patient facing an attempted murder charge. The Wasatch County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on April 30, after reports surfaced of a stabbing at the facility. The victim, who was allegedly attacked unprovoked, was airlifted to the University of Utah Medical Center for treatment. KUTV reported on the gravity of the situation shortly after the event.
The charges stem from a violent altercation where the accused, identified as a voluntary patient at the recovery center, purportedly initiated an attack on another patient. This information was corroborated by a review of surveillance footage that captured the incident. The victim was sitting on a couch in a common area when the assailant, Kluser, approached from behind and began the assault. "Walker walks up behind him and starts swinging a knife at the victim's neck, unprovoked," as mentioned by KSL.com in their coverage of the story.
Further reports from KSL TV added that the alleged assailant made contact with the victim’s neck at least six times. Despite the potentially fatal nature of the injuries sustained, the victim who was stabbed is expected to survive. This latest report has shed light on the security measures and the state of mental health services provided at such rehabilitation facilities.
