The National Weather Service has issued a detailed forecast for Washington D.C., preparing residents for a wave of precipitation and fluctuating conditions over the coming week. According to the latest update, today Washingtonians should expect showers and a possible thunderstorm before 11 a.m., accompanied by patchy fog between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. With a strong chance of precipitation pegged at 90%, and new rainfall amounts ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch—potentially more during thunderstorms—the city braces for a wet start.
The skies will clear up somewhat by tonight, as scattered showers are anticipated mainly before 7 pm, then partly cloudy conditions will follow. Temperatures are expected to dip to a low of around 48 degrees with Northwest winds blowing at 6 to 8 mph. The chance of precipitation drops to 30%, providing a brief respite from the day's heavier rains, said the NWS.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday promises sunny skies with a high near 72 degrees, and winds picking up at 9 to 13 mph, with potential gusts as high as 23 mph. The pleasant weather carries over to Saturday night with partly cloudy conditions and a low around 57 degrees.
Moving into Sunday, residents can anticipate mostly sunny weather with temperatures climbing to a high near 78 degrees, offering a delightful end to the weekend. The outlook for the early workweek, however, suggests a return to more unsettled weather. Monday's forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 76, but by Monday night there is a 40% chance of showers after 2 a.m. Overcasts and chances of rain extend into Tuesday, with showers likely, particularly after 2 p.m., and the probability of precipitation sits at 60%.
The rest of the week doesn't promise much relief from the wet conditions. Wednesday predicts a high near 79 degrees but with an 80% chance of showers continuing into the night. The pattern of showers could persist until Thursday, with a chance of thunderstorms also entering the mix. Thursday's temperature is expected to reach a high near 83 degrees, with precipitation chances at 50%, as the National Weather Service reported.
