
Washington D.C. residents were confronted with news of violence close to home, as the Metropolitan Police Department reported a homicide that occurred over the weekend. In a statement released by the Metropolitan Police Department, they confirmed that officers of the Fourth District were called to the 3300 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest on Sunday morning, where they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot injuries.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the call came in at about 5:47 a.m., and despite the first responders' prompt arrival, the victim, identified as 26-year-old Benjamin Coleman of Northwest, DC, was found unconscious and not breathing, ultimately being pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and EMS personnel, and while it's always a tragic outcome when life is lost in such a manner, the community is now grappling with the immediate reality of this violent act, seeking answers and resolution.
The death of Benjamin Coleman highlights the ongoing problem of gun violence in many neighborhoods. While police investigate what happened, they are asking anyone with information to come forward. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for tips that help lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.
