In what could have been a grim morning at a Waxhaw restaurant, the quick action of local deputies turned a potential tragedy into a life-saving incident. Last Sunday, while dining at Stack's Restaurant, members of the Baker Squad Patrol Division noticed a fellow patron, a 78-year-old man, in distress, struggling to breathe due to a blocked airway.
Without hesitation, one of the deputies performed the Heimlich maneuver, while the others sought further help, summoning EMS and Fire services to the scene. Their concerted efforts paid off, the obstruction was cleared, and the individual regained his ability to breathe independently, as reported by the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Cathey has since lauded the deputies for their decisive actions. In an official statement, he praised the squad, stating, "Their swift response and the training they reverted to in this emergency directly led to a life being saved." The recognition is well-deserved for this team, whose breakfast outing fortuitously placed them at the right place, at the right moment to render critical aid, as per Union County Sheriff's Office.
