Travelers using the major tri-state area airports have been caught in a messy network of delays, with weather-related complications wreaking havoc on schedules. According to PIX11, the Federal Aviation Association indicated substantial holdups at both LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport today.
By the morning, reports from Newark highlighted nearly three-hour ground delays while LaGuardia followed suit at around an hour delay, a shift from recent disruptions previously tied to things like staffing and equipment issues. John F. Kennedy International Airport also braced for possible ground delays later in the day, with suggestions from the FAA to travelers to check with their airlines for the most current flight information.
Adding to the travel frustrations, the day prior saw the implementation of a "Ground Stop" at Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia due to thunderstorms as reported by LoHud. Details from the advisories unveiled JFK's average ground delay hitting 107 minutes, affecting all contiguous U.S. departures, a hassle compounded later with an extra quarter-hour delay tacked on.
At EWR, flight departures to the airport were delayed an average of 282 minutes "due to thunderstorms," with delays spilling over until nearly 2 a.m. ET, today. LaGuardia's ground stop was expected to lapse by 5 p.m. on Wednesday; however, departure delays of roughly 61 minutes persisted, coupled with an added delay average of 30 minutes later in the evening. Travelers looking for real-time updates on these conditions can visit the Port Authority's website or the FAA's status tracker, as per LoHud.
