Cleveland's National Weather Service (NWS) has set expectations for a mixed bag of weather conditions hitting the region. After a trough persisted throughout Saturday, forecast conditions are showing signs of improvement. High pressure moved in from the northwest on Sunday and is expected to stay put through Monday. But don't stow away your umbrellas just yet—a low-pressure system is slated to ruffle feathers from the southwest come Tuesday, stretching into Wednesday.

According to Saturday morning's forecast, lake-enhanced showers have already made their presence known in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania. "Some showers have developed off Lake Erie into Northwest Pennsylvania and have bumped up PoPs slightly in this area given the radar returns," the NWS Cleveland report stated. Despite these conditions, the forecast anticipates clearer skies with the entrance of high pressure tonight, although fog could sneak its way in if atmospheric conditions allow.

As for the upcoming workweek, NWS predicts a “large area of surface high pressure” dominating the scene until Tuesday night, giving way to warmer temperatures and the risk of showers. “A warm front develops in response to weak surface cyclogenesis over the Mid Mississippi Valley,” said the NWS, hinting at the potential for some regions to see thunderstorms midweek as warmer air pushes northward. NWS Cleveland forecasts highs from the upper 60s to around 70 by Tuesday, with lows on Sunday night still chilling the bones in the low to mid-40s.

Yet, the forecast for the remainder of the week holds onto cooler, unsettled conditions as another pest of a mid-level trough looks to make itself comfortable over Eastern North America. This bout of weather tinkering will hover around, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s, and mean chances of rain sparked by the daytime heat. So for those aching for the halcyon days of summer, the NWS imparts a sobering message: patience.

Mariners are also advised to heed caution. "There will be one more uptick to 15-20 knots on the eastern basin this afternoon as the winds turn more westerly,” the NWS warned, prompting the issuance of a Small Craft Advisory for Lake Erie's eastern waters until this evening. This also ups the ante for a risk of rip currents today, particularly off the shore of Erie County, PA.
