If you're planning on driving through Hamilton County this weekend, expect some slowdowns on Interstate 75. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced that work to repair damaged concrete slabs will lead to weekend lane closures near the I-75 at I-24 interchange. This maintenance is part of the ongoing project to widen and improve one of the state's busiest junctions.
Beginning tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET and continuing through Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. ET, crews will close the left lane on I-75 South from the bridge over the CSX railroad to East Brainerd Road. Northbound lanes will remain open; however, southbound drivers should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes. TDOT has installed signage to direct motorists through the revised traffic pattern.
In an effort to minimize disruptions, this construction work has been scheduled over the weekend when traffic is typically lighter. According to TDOT, the road will reopen as soon as the new concrete has cured sufficiently to pass strength testing.
The lane closure schedule is subject to change based on the weather or other unexpected circumstances. If plans need to be postponed, the work will resume on a later date. To assist with traffic management, uniformed police officers are slated to be on site. TDOT continues to stress the importance of driver safety, reminding everyone to stay alert and abide by the Move Over Law, which carries fines and even jail time for non-compliance.
