Heads up, West Allis residents, Memorial Day will bring a tweak to your usual garbage and recycling schedule. According to the City of West Allis website, collections will slide due to the holiday, with services catching up later in the week. If you're accustomed to rolling out your bins on Mondays, prepare to do so on Tuesday, May 27, instead.
Given the shortened work week, crews are preparing to hustle, but there's a chance they may fall behind. If your regular pick-up is Tuesday, May 27, your trash should make it out on the same day or possibly the following Wednesday. For those with pick-ups scheduled the rest of the week, expect potential one-day delays as well. To clarify, here's what the adjusted schedule will look like: Wednesday pickups may occur either on that day or the next; Thursday services could also spill into Friday; and Friday's collection remains unchanged, as detailed by the City of West Allis.
The city reminds residents about closures for Memorial Day. On May 26, several places will be closed to honor those who served, including City Hall, the Southwest Suburban Health Department, the West Allis Public Library, and the West Allis Senior Center. The Municipal Yard will also be closed on Saturday before the holiday, as reported by the City of West Allis.
