A Westlake man faced a Cuyahoga County courtroom today following his recent indictment on several serious charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the strangulation of a woman who was found lying in a street last month.

22-year-old Jahard Colon appeared in Common Pleas Court and entered a plea of not guilty to charges that included one count of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault, two counts of strangulation, and one count of domestic violence, as WKYC reports. The arraignment stems from an April 23 incident where Westlake police were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. to Canterbury Road near Center Ridge Road after receiving multiple 911 calls about a distressed woman.

Responding officers discovered the victim, in a conscious yet incoherent state, struggling to articulate the events that had transpired. According to cleveland.com, the victim was lying in the street with life-threatening injuries, prompting an urgent transport to UH St. John Medical Center.

Judge retained Colon's bond at $50,000 and imposed a no-contact order with the victim, complementing a temporary protection order already in place. "When officers arrived, they found the woman conscious but incoherent," according to details shared by Cleveland19. The name of the 25-year-old woman who suffered the grievous attack has not been released to the public.
