In an unexpected twist of duty, a White Lake Township police officer took on the role of a wildlife caregiver after a deer was hit by a car in Oakland County. ClickOnDetroit reported that the incident occurred last night, around 10:30 p.m., near the Meijer store on Highland Road. Officer Wright, arriving at the scene, discovered the pregnant doe in the midst of giving birth.

Tragically, while the doe did not survive the collision, her fawn was delivered successfully thanks to Wright's prompt action. Warming the newborn and stimulating breath, the fawn, dubbed "Baby Meijer" by the station's midnight shift, showed signs of life. Per a Facebook statement shared by the department and cited by WXYZ, "Sometimes in this job you see and do things you have never done before. We can now mark deer birthing and deer neonatal care off the list."

After the roadside delivery, Wright took the fawn to the police department, where it received further care. Officer Snow made a comfortable bed and provided the animal with milk, nurturing the fawn until a wildlife rehabilitation center could step in for its long-term care. According to a report from CBS Detroit, a wildlife rehabilitation center is set to become the young deer's new home.
