As we step into the heart of May, a month dedicated to showing gratitude for our military forces. The White Settlement Police Department has taken a moment to honor those who serve with a small yet significant gesture. On its official Facebook page, the department announced that Chief Cook presented a special commemorative coin set to Major Lundgren and Staff Sergeant Eric “KP” Kilpatrick of the U.S. Marine Corps VMFA-112 Cowboys, stationed at NAS JRB Fort Worth.
The gesture coincided with the VMFA-112 Cowboys' recent acquisition of several F/A-18D Hornets from the VMFA(AW)-224 "Bengals," a move that reflected a changing of the guard as the Bengals transitioned to the sophisticated F-35B Lightning II. The Cowboys inherit machines that have seen their fair share of skies, while the Bengals are looking towards a future in stealth and advanced avionics.
The coin set, commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the US Marine Corps, symbolizes continuity and change within the armed forces. Present too was Corporal Gonzalez, who brought to the gathering the solemn weight of history and the spirit of service as a USMC veteran.
