A major Xfinity service outage affected residents across Houston today, disrupting internet, TV, DVR, and voice services. Comcast acknowledged the outage and said service was expected to be restored by around 4 p.m. Central Time, though no cause or number of affected customers was provided.
The outage also impacted critical infrastructure, including Port Houston. According to a statement obtained by KHOU, inbound truck processing was stalled, and outbound movement was limited to trucks already on-site when the outage began around 11 a.m. The disruption affected container terminals at Bayport and Barbours Cut.
Public services were also affected. The Harris County Clerk's Office announced on Facebook that all locations were accepting only cash payments due to the internet outage.
Click2Houston reported widespread service complaints from Xfinity customers in the Greater Houston area. At least one customer referenced the Xfinity outage tracker, which estimated a resolution by 4 p.m.
A Comcast spokesperson told Click2Houston that technicians were working to restore service and that the cause was under investigation. The outage also affected the National Weather Service radar in Houston during a period of expected severe weather.
