Charges have been announced following a stabbing incident in Northeast by the Metropolitan Police Department; a woman is now in custody. According to a release from the MPD, the stabbing occurred on Monday, when Fifth District officers responded to a call from the injured party in the 800 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast.
The victim, an adult male, had been attacked with a knife before the assailant fled the scene. DC Fire and EMS were alerted and swiftly transported the man to a hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Following the event, detectives moved quickly, securing surveillance footage near the location and causing a photo of the suspect to be distributed among patrol officers, aiding in the search.
The subsequent day witnessed a crucial breakthrough; officers with knowledge of the case successfully apprehended the suspect, culminating in the arrest. Grace Shanita Hilliard, a 42-year-old from Northeast, now faces a charge of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (knife), bringing some closure to the violent encounter earlier in the week.
