Attention Wright County drivers: road maintenance is on the horizon with the 2025 Seal Coat Contract set to kick off on May 28th, right after the Memorial Day weekend. This year, you'll want to prepare for minor delays as there's a good chunk of highway getting the seal coat treatment. Approximately 42 miles of Wright County highways and nine park and trail locations are on the agenda for an upgrade, The work consists of applying two coats of bituminous sealing oil and rock chips to the existing pavement, aimed at prolonging the roadway life and enhancing the driving experience.
The affected thoroughfares include County Highway 5 stretching from Howard Lake to County Highway 35, County Highway 7 reaching from Howard Lake to Maple Lake, and several others, including stretches of County Highway 8, 32, 41, and County Roads 100, 141, and 142. For those hoping to visualize the impacted routes, a helpful map is provided on the county's official announcement. As the maintenance unfolds, flaggers will manage traffic through work zones, allowing the highways to remain open but, as with any project of this magnitude, travelers should brace for some delays.
Allied Blacktop Company, based out of Maple Grove, is the prime contractor responsible for this year's seal coating operations, the project also includes the necessary evil of re-striping the centerlines, lane lines, and road messages as part of the County's broader Pavement Markings Contract which will continue throughout the season. Those with questions or in need of further details are encouraged to reach out to the Construction Engineer, Matt Messerly, at 651-627-4386 or via email at [email protected], during regular business hours.
The county is asking for the public's patience and understanding as this important pavement maintenance project is completed, improvements like these, while inconvenient in the short-term, are essential for safer and smoother travels in the long run, so while your commute may be a tad longer or a bit more convoluted for a while, the end result should be worth the temporary headaches.
