A York County doctor, formerly the medical director at Pyramid Healthcare Treatment Center, faces grave accusations of coercing methadone patients into sexual acts and exploiting their dependence on vital medication for opioid addiction treatment. According to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the arrest of Dr. Christopher Davis, 63, on multiple charges including rape, sexual assault, and sexual extortion, among others.
Set at $1 million, bail for Davis reflects the severity of the allegations against him. According to the Office of Attorney General, between 2022 and 2024, the doctor abused his authority, controlling access to methadone, to manipulate and assault numerous patients. They, relying on medication to overcome addiction, became prey, Attorney General Dave Sunday explained, stating, “This doctor abused his role as a gatekeeper to necessary medications for vulnerable patients by manipulating, intimidating, and assaulting numerous patients.”
The allegations suggest that Davis demanded sexual acts or lewd photographs from patients in exchange for the continuation of their treatment. If patients refused, he allegedly threatened to withhold their access to medications, effectively leveraging his medical authority for personal gratification. The investigation, involving a presentment from the 52nd Statewide Investigating Grand Jury, has now led to Davis’s arrest on various offenses.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Robert Smulktis and Deputy Attorney General Christy Schlottman of the Drug Strike Force Section lead the prosecution. While the charges against Dr. Davis are serious, it is of utmost importance to remember that they remain allegations at this stage, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
