Earlier today, a Yulee man, aged 31, succumbed to fatal injuries after being struck by a semi-truck on State Road 200 in Nassau County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident was said to have occurred specifically near the Tributary Drive entrance of the Tributary subdivision. News4Jax detailed the man's presence in the outside westbound lane of SR 200 at around 12:45 a.m. when the collision took place.
According to First Coast News, the semi, driven by a 61-year-old man from Jacksonville, had just passed Tributary Drive traveling west in the outside lane where the man was subsequently struck. While standing in the lane of the road, the driver's efforts to avoid the collision remain unclear. The impact knocked the Yulee man onto the grass shoulder where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was reported to have stopped immediately after the incident occurred, assisting with the investigation. Remarkably, he sustained no injuries and was found to have been wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, as asserted by the FHP.
As the sun rose casting light upon the now quiet State Road 200, the FHP continued their inquiry into the circumstances leading up to the collision. While the investigation progresses, Action News Jax has reported that the Yulee man was standing in the westbound lanes when the semi hit him just before 1 a.m.; their broadcast provided no reason as to why the man found himself in the path of oncoming traffic.
