Winter Garden was awoken to acts of violence early this morning, as a shooting claimed the life of a 24-year-old man, Darius Towns, and left another individual wounded. As reported by ClickOrlando, police responded to the Westside Townhomes at 1054 Dolphin Drive. The exact motives behind the confrontation at this dwelling, where detectives encountered a potent smell of cannabis and spent bullet casings, remain as elusive as the gunmen.
According to the statements on the scene, two assailants ambushed the residence and opened fire. Surveillance footage reveals a third individual fleeing the area with items from the house. Their role in the crime remains unclear.
Both victims were rushed to an area hospital, where Towns was pronounced deceased. The other victim's condition has stabilized, but their identity and the extent of their injuries have not been released.
The ongoing investigation invites those with information to support their quest for justice, urging potential witnesses to come forward. Detective Kevin Burger and Sergeant Dave Clarke are leading the probe, and individuals can contact them directly or submit tips to CRIMELINE, as detailed by WFTV.
