An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting while playing basketball with his 13-year-old brother on Houston’s northeast side. The incident occurred yesterday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Responding to the shooting around 7 p.m., officers arrived at the 8600 block of Lomax Street to find the boy shot in the torso. A blue, four-door sedan was reported to quickly have driven by the scene, out of which a Hispanic man allegedly fired at least two shots, hitting the 11-year-old, as ABC13 reported. The boy was subsequently taken to the hospital for surgery.
The Houston Police Department is actively looking for the light blue sedan involved in the shooting. "They're optimistic on his outcome," Lt. Larry Crowson said, regarding the boy’s condition in a statement obtained by ABC13. However, it remains unclear whether the location or the victims were specifically targeted.
Witnesses placed the shooting near the intersection of Berry Road, where the two brothers were outside playing at the time of the attack. While the 11-year-old was struck in the stomach and is currently in surgery, the older brother was unharmed. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding the vehicle involved, as reported by Click2Houston. The investigation is ongoing as police attempt to piece together the motive behind the shooting and identify any suspects.
