The Sonoma Sheriff's Department reported the arrest of a 15-year-old following a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle. The incident unfolded when a deputy patrolling the area of E Street in Santa Rosa around 10:39 AM spotted the reportedly stolen car. The officer kept the vehicle in sight, holding off on a traffic stop until backup arrived. The suspect, in response, pressed the gas and catapulted the chase through the Bennett Valley area, where speeds clocked in at up to 70 mph, the Sonoma Sheriff's Department said on Facebook.
The pursuit terminated dramatically with the juvenile crashing into a parked car near Bethards Drive and St. Paul Drive, after which the teen tried to escape on foot. A collaborative effort between the Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies and the Santa Rosa Police Department led to a swiftly established perimeter and the quick capture of the young suspect.
The driver, having received medical care at the scene, faces serious legal repercussions, including "felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, and misdemeanor offenses for possession of burglary tools and hit-and-run," according to the Sonoma Sheriff's Department's social media post. Compounding the teen's troubles was that the individual was already on juvenile probation.
