In a somber incident in Osceola County, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot by deputies after he reportedly charged at them with a gun, ClickOrlando reports. The confrontation took place yesterday afternoon on Chirpine Lane in St. Cloud, during a response to a family's call over a mental health crisis involving the young man.
Osceola County Chief Deputy Dan Weis, in a news conference, detailed the series of events that led to the shooting. According to Weis, the man emerged from a patch of woods naked and armed, which prompted the deputies' response. "The subject charged our deputies and both of our deputes had to fire their firearms and then stop the subject," Weis said, as per the statement obtained by WFTV.
While the deputies involved were not injured, the man succumbed to gunshot wounds. It remains unclear if the man was pronounced dead at the scene or after being transported to a medical facility. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken up the investigation to discern the nuances of this tragic event, ensuring a thorough analysis of the actions leading to the use of deadly force.
