A 19-year-old Modesto woman has tragically lost her life following a two-vehicle crash with a big rig in Stanislaus County, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred on Saturday morning on a stretch of rural road near the unincorporated community of Grayson, roughly 25 minutes from Modesto.
The collision took place at the intersection of West Grayson Road and Shiloh Road, ABC10 reported. Taking to the road directly into the path of an eastbound big rig, the young woman was driving a 2015 Kia sedan northbound from a driveway entering West Grayson Road.
Upon their arrival shortly after the collision, which was reported to have occurred just after 11 a.m., emergency crews found the sedan and the International big rig with significant damage. The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene, KCRA outlines. The 38-year-old Merced man behind the wheel of the big rig was unharmed.
Although the investigation into the fatal crash is still underway, the CHP has indicated that they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors. Both drivers involved in the crash were utilizing their seatbelts when the woman drove into the big rig's path, according to details from the CHP. The identity of the woman who died in the crash has yet to be released by authorities.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of the crash, local traffic patterns in the area of West Grayson and Shiloh roads may be affected while the investigation continues. The CHP is working to uncover the precise reasons why the Kia entered the roadway in such a manner, leading to this tragic event.
