Tragedy struck in The Ville neighborhood of St. Louis City when Jorre Hadley, a 24-year-old woman, was shot and killed on the evening of May 11. According to police reports, the incident took place in the 4200 block of Maffitt Avenue at around 7:33 p.m., where Hadley was found in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical services' quick response, she was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The circumstances of the shooting are yet unclear, however, authorities have since arrested a 28-year-old man in connection to the event. On Tuesday, the suspect was taken into custody and the following day, the Circuit Attorney’s Office issued a myriad of charges including Murder 1st Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, among others. The investigative process remains, active as homicide detectives continue to piece together the events that led up to Hadley's untimely death.
The sweeping charges against the detained individual suggest a chaotic altercation, as evidenced by counts such as Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree and Assault on a Law Enforcement Animal. These multiple, severe charges indicate the suspect's alleged role was anything but minor, and the repercussions are set to be equally as stern if a conviction is secured.
In the wake of this harrowing event, a community is left to mourn, and question what systems have failed to protect one of their own. As the investigation unfolds, many wait for justice in what is sure to be a closely watched case. Details of the investigation are available from local authorities, and further updates will continue to be monitored and reported by the SLMPD.
