Tragedy struck on a busy Las Vegas road when a 61-year-old woman was fatally struck by a box truck. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department press release, the collision happened around 9:33 a.m. on Blue Diamond Road, just east of Arville Street.
Initial investigations and video footage revealed the woman, whose identity has yet to be notified to next of kin, appeared to unexpectedly dart onto the road. An oncoming tractor-trailer managed to swerve and brake, narrowly avoiding a direct impact. However, this maneuver resulted in another truck colliding with the trailer. Witnesses observed the woman continue walking before she again darted, directly into the path of an Isuzu box truck. The driver, identified as Salaz Cruz, Alejandro, attempted to immediately swerve to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to prevent the fatal accident, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The aftermath was swift yet somber. Emergency Medical Services hurried to the scene yet found, despite intense life-saving efforts, that the woman had passed away from her injuries. The Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner is conducting further investigation to determine the precise cause and manner of death. Meanwhile, the driver of the box truck and his passenger, Luis Manuel Navarro Dominguez, reported sustaining no injuries, as per the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared more details, including that the vehicle involved was a 2023 Isuzu NPD HD Box Truck. So far, no charges have been filed.
