Drivers in Wauwatosa, mark your calendars. Starting tomorrow, 68th Street is set to be off-limits to through traffic at Wisconsin Avenue. The closure, which aims to facilitate undisclosed construction activities, is expected to last until August this year. Local traffic, however, can breathe a sigh of relief as access to 68th Street will still be maintained during the interruption, according to an announcement from the City of Wauwatosa.
Drivers who use this route daily should follow a new detour. To go north, take Bluemound Road east to Hawley Road, then head north to State Street, which can be taken east or west. For southbound travel, use State Street east, then go south on Hawley Road to Bluemound Road. The city says this detour will help keep traffic moving during construction.
Though details regarding the nature of the construction at 68th and Wisconsin have not been fully disclosed, the usage of the area by local residents will not be hampered. The city appears to be taking measures to ensure that while 68th Street is a construction zone, the familiar hum of neighborhood life continues undisturbed, nestled within the boundaries of community and progress.
