A tragic incident unfolded last Saturday evening in Deltona when a 7-year-old girl was found unresponsive at the bottom of a backyard pool. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the 2200 block of Harding Circle to find the girl already pulled from the water and CPR being administered.
The child's adoptive mother recounted to authorities that she had prompted her daughter to exit the pool after her lips started turning blue, a warning sign from previous seizures, WESH reported. She then directed the girl to sit on the outdoor couch while she attended to another child inside the home. It was only minutes later that the mother discovered the child submerged in the deep end of the pool.
Efforts to resuscitate the young girl continued until the arrival of the fire department and sheriff's office personnel. The girl, whose identity has not been released, was then rushed to AdventHealth Orange City, where she was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office has noted that the girl had several medical conditions, including epilepsy, which may have been a contributing factor in the drowning.
"Family members immediately performed CPR until deputies and firefighters arrived," according to a statement detailed by ClickOrlando. The exact cause of death for the girl is still pending, and further information is expected as the investigation continues.
