Big news out of the Lone Star State for young scholars and would-be tradespeople. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has just dropped the news that a cool sum exceeding $910,000 in grants is heading to East Texas schools, earmarked for career training programs. These Jobs and Education for Texans grants, doled out by the Texas Workforce Commission, are slated to lay the groundwork for over 470 students to gear up for careers in in-demand fields like nursing, welding, and mechanical engineering, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Governor Abbott, optimistic about Texas' growing economy, said that investing in the future workforce is a top priority. According to the Office of the Texas Governor, new grants are helping support this goal and strengthen Texas' reputation for training skilled workers.
The grant funding is helping ease technical education challenges across Texas. Angelina College received $337,026 for its welding program. Bullard ISD got $89,480 to train future nurses with help from Tyler Junior College. Quitman ISD was awarded $350,000 to support mechanical engineering training in partnership with Texas State Technical College–Marshall. Carthage ISD also received $135,027 for welding training, working with Panola College, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Texas State Technical College’s Marshall campus hosted an awards ceremony where Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Joe Esparza presented grant checks. State and local leaders, along with educators, gathered to support preparing students for the workforce. The grants fund top-quality equipment, helping students gain the skills needed for high-demand jobs. With support from the state legislature, Texas Workforce Commission continues to help students launch their careers and meet Texas’s growing job needs, as per the Office of the Texas Governor.
