Traffic in Akron has hit a snag following a sewer break discovered this morning at the west side of the S. Broadway and E. Mill St. intersection. The Akron Police Department has closed a significant portion of the intersection to manage the situation effectively. As a result, major detours and changes in traffic patterns are now in effect, impacting daily commutes and local access.
With the area now deemed a no-go for the usual flow, adjustments to the daily drive are a must. Acknowledging the disruption, repairs are slated to start tomorrow, June 27, and are expected to wrap up by Friday, July 11, as per a social media post from the Akron Police Department. The police have outlined detour routes for affected drivers to minimize chaos and keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible under the circumstances.
Those heading north on S. Broadway will now be funneled into the rightmost lane, and turning left at E. Mill St. is off the table. For those traveling westward on E. Mill St., a mandatory right turn at S. Broadway is in effect, with a detour via S. Broadway, E. Market St., and S. High St. looping back to E. Mill St. Meanwhile, eastbound drivers on E. Mill St. will not be able to turn left onto S. Broadway and will instead be redirected using E. Mill St., S. Union St., and E. Market St. back to S. Broadway.
The Akron Police Department is urging drivers to exercise caution while navigating through this area, as usual traffic patterns have been disrupted. "Drivers are urged to use caution while proceeding through this area," stated the Akron Police Department in their online advisory.
