The Common Council of Milwaukee is set to host the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s Epsilon Kappa Omega and Upsilon Mu Omega Chapters for their 11th Annual AKA Day at City Hall today, June 3, according to a city announcement. This event, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., carries a serious theme this year: "Pipes, Promise & Potential: Confronting the Lead Problem and Lifting Milwaukee’s Youth."
During this year's AKA Day, attending AKA members will engage with the Milwaukee Common Council in a morning meeting at 9 a.m., followed by a Q&A session with the Council members and wrapping up the event with a call to action, says the statement. The engagement of these community leaders marks yet another stride toward grappling with the city's pressing issues, particularly the troubling prevalence of lead exposure, which considerably undermines the health and development of the city's younger residents.
Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, who carries the dual distinction of serving on the Common Council and being a member of the service organization, expressed anticipation for the meeting. "The members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are engaged with key city issues and we look forward to discussing those and various community related topics with them tomorrow during their visit," Coggs affirmed in the announcement.
