The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that a 64-year-old Altamonte Springs man succumbed to his injuries nearly a month after being struck in a hit-and-run incident in Orange County. This tragic development follows the collision that took place around 8:53 p.m. on May 7 along Lee Road, near the Adanson Street intersection, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Authorities indicated that the man was traversing a marked crosswalk without a walk signal when a 2019 GMC Terrain hit him. The driver, 84-year-old Charlotte Sunderman of Maitland, reportedly paused in a nearby parking lot briefly before fleeing the scene. An Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the SUV shortly after, noticing damage consistent with the crash, and brought Sunderman back to the scene of the incident. Her initial charge for leaving a crash scene involving serious bodily injury could face an upgrade, according to FHP.
As confirmed by WESH, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital following the crash. Details about the victim's identity or the precise nature of the injuries were not immediately available.
