In the wake of Nikola Corporation’s abrupt closure of its facilities in Coolidge and Phoenix, ARIZONA@WORK has stepped up to provide critical support to the hundreds of displaced workers. The recent closures, which took place in April, left approximately 501 employees in Phoenix and 315 in Coolidge without jobs. ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County, in partnership with its counterparts in Phoenix, Maricopa County, and Tribal communities, has organized a series of career fairs and workshops to provide timely employment support.
Amid the job loss catastrophe, ARIZONA@WORK's efforts included career readiness workshops focusing on resume development and job search strategies, followed by afternoon career fairs integrating local support services. Employers who were looking to fill their ranks participated in the career fairs, and over 700 job seekers showed up, eager to take their next career step. According to the latest update on Pinal County's official website, the workforce events included full-day programs held at Eloy City Hall on April 25 and at Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak Campus on May 22, whereas the City of Phoenix hosted two events at South Mountain Library on April 16 and May 7. In all, 93 attendees absorbed wisdom from the Career Connectors-led workshops.
The career fairs offered considerable variety, featuring 44 employers from a wide range of industries presenting numerous job openings. Not just a band-aid solution, these strategic initiatives by ARIZONA@WORK radiate their dedication to empowering the community and providing a swift lifeline to those impacted by economic upheaval.
