The City of Arlington is urging its residents to embrace the CodeRED emergency alert system, a service tailored for swift notifications about city services and public emergencies. Launched back in 2021, this system provides a direct line of communication through phone calls, text messages, and emails to those signed up for the service. It is specially activated for incidents such as gas leaks, water service disruptions, and garbage collection updates, although it's not used for severe weather alerts, per information provided by the City of Arlington.
In the event of a public emergency, the CodeRED system can disseminate crucial information to thousands at a moment's notice. This system is not just for emergency communications; it can also relay general updates affecting the community. Signing up is a simple task: residents are invited to text ARLINGTON to 99411 and receive a link to register for these free notifications online, according to the City of Arlington.
Understanding the diverse linguistic fabric of the community, CodeRED offers its notifications in a selection of 23 languages. When setting up a managed account through the CodeRED interface, residents may choose their preferred language easily. For convenience and assurance, the City suggests adding CodeRED's dedicated phone numbers to contact lists, the #866-419-5000 for emergencies, and #855-969-4636 for general notifications.
